Low Back Pain

Approximately 85% of the population will experience disabling low back pain at least once during their lives. Low Back Pain can certainly make life difficult for you & your family. It can be accompanied by a variety of symptoms, some of which indicate very serious problems.

Do you currently have or have you ever had...

  • Leg Pain with numbness, tingling and/or weakness?
  • Back or leg pain when coughing or sneezing?
  • Difficulty standing up after sitting for any period of time?
  • Morning stiffness?
  • Pain in hip, buttock, thigh, knee, or foot?

If you answered, "yes" to any of these symptoms, it's time you got help from a Doctor of Chiropractic.

A Chiropractor's purpose is to make your spine an its nerves, discs and muscles healthier, stronger & more stable by correcting your vertebral subluxations. Chiropractors have helped millions of people with Low Back Problems, often relieving them of pain, disability, as well as, preventing the need for drugs and surgery.

The Government of Ontario in Canada commissioned the Manga Report. Leading economists found that chiropractic care for patients with low back pain is superior to medical care in terms of safety, scientific evidence of effectiveness, cost and patient satisfaction. This report concluded:

The higher satisfaction levels expressed by patients of chiropractors ...offers an overwhelming case in favour of much greater use of chiropractic services in the management of low-back pain.

There should be a shift in policy to encourage and prefer chiropractic services for most patients with low-back pain...a very good case can be made for making chiropractors the gatekeepers for management of low-back pain in the workers' compensation system.

Neck Pain

With all the neck's complicity it should come as no surprise that neck problems are common. Neck pain may develop suddenly from a trauma such as whiplash, a fall, or slowly as a result of spine imbalance, vertebral subluxations, emotional stress or bad posture. Damaged or irritated neck nerves can cause more than neck pain. Pain in the face, shoulder, arm, wrist, hand and fingers as well as reduced neck rotation may also occur. Other symptoms that may indicate a neck problem incude: headaches, vision difficulties, dizziness, ringing in the ears, decreased attention, learning and memory impairments, nasal problems, tongue and throat problems.

Headaches

Contrary to what you may think the pain caused by headaches do not come from your brain. Your brain can feel no sensation. The veins & arteries inside the brain & skull, the membranes that wrap around your brain and the nerves in your head called cranial nerves are what cause your head to ache. When these structures are pulled, stretched, compressed, irritated and inflamed headaches will oftehn be the result. Spinal subluxations or misalignments are often the culprits.

The most common treatment for headaches is pain killers. Pain killers do provide relief, but please remember , the pain may be gone but the cause of the headache is not corrected. Pain killers treat the symptom. That is why headache sufferers receive only temporary relief from pain killers.

Chiropractors are the only healing professionals who are trained to analyze and correct the vertebral subluxation complex. The subluxation complex is a spinal distortion that can damage your nerves, inflame your tissues, cause muscles to tighten, weaken your body, and cause fatigue. All of these are major contributors to most headaches.

Spine and Disc Degeneration (Arthritis)

With spinal degeneration your bones deform, your discs swell, then shrink, and your ligament, tendons and muscles begin to harden & weaken. Not only does spinal degeneration effect these structures, your nerves, body chemistry and internal organs are also affected. This degeneration is usually caused by years of long standing vertebral subluxations in your spine.

Vertebral Subluxation

Stress attributed to our day to day routine often causes the spinal vertebrae to shift from their alignment and become misplaced. This will irritate the surrounding nerves, bones, discs, and ligaments. This serious spinal condition is called a vertebral subluxation complex.

The sooner chiropractic care is begun, the better. Chiropractic can reduce, halt, and may even reverse spinal degeneration, by relieving subluxations, improving spinal balance and posture and keeping your joints, discs and nerves strong & healthy.

The best approach to spinal degeneration is prevention. Periodic chiropractic check ups to detect the "silent" vertebral subluxation complex is essential in preventing spinal degeneration.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

The Carpal Tunnel is in your wrist. The carpal bones of your wrist form a tunnel-like structure called "the Carpal Tunnel." Four tendons and one nerve (median nerve) pas through this tunnel. The Carpal Tunnel Symptoms occurs when the median nerve is irritated. The symptoms may include one or more of the following: tingling and numbness in the hand, fingers and wrist, similar symptoms in the upper arm, elbow and neck and pain so severe it awakens you at night. Those who do repetitive tasks such as computer users, housewives, secretaries and assembly line workers tend to suffer the most.

Anyone suffering from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome should see a chiropractor to ensure that his/her spinal column is free from nerve pressure between the arms, wrists and nerves in the neck. Altered spinal movement may be creating strain on the neck to cause or aggravate the condition,

Stress

Stress can be a contributor to many health problems. The major symptoms of stress are:

  1. Headaches
  2. Fatigue
  3. Neck & Back Pain
  4. Sleeping Problems
  5. Irritability
  6. Digestive Troubles
  7. Allergies & Sinus Problems

If you experience one or more of these symptoms you could be suffering from the effects of stress on your nervous system.

Chiropractic care is similar to removing a pebble from a shoe. A pebble can cause a constant irritation of a nerve in your foot and drive you crazy. At first it feels like a pressure, then an irritation, and finally a pain. The spine can place a minor irritation on a nerve on your spinal cord like a pebble in a shoe. You remove the pebble from your shoe and all the pressure, irritation, and stress will disappear.

Sciatica

"Sciatica" is a term used to describe a pain that runs the length of the sciatic nerve, The nerve itself is formed from nerve roots that exit the spinal column in your Lumbar Spine (low back), and runs the length of your thigh to the back of your knee. Low Back Pain, Buttock Pain, and Hip Pain accompanied with pain down the back of your thigh to the knee & sometimes to your feet is described as sciatica.

There are several contributions to sciatic nerve pain, the most common being vertebral subluxation complex of the Lumbar Spine.

Lumbar vertebral misalignment and loss of normal range of motion will irritate and put pressure on the nerve roots as they exit the spinal column causing pain down the length of the nerve.

Note: Sciatic pain is often a symptom of pregnancy. Ligament laxity increased abdominal weight and pelvic expansion all contribute to sciatica in pregnancy. Chiropractic care is extremely important for the pregnant women as subluxations and their symptoms are often more severe.
